Christ University Hostel vs PG
Many students look for a PG because of the hostel rules, so it helps to know what you are comparing.
What the university states. Jonas Hall is the women's hostel on the Central Campus, and Kuriakose Elias Hall and Christ Hostel house male students. The university's hostel information says entry to Jonas Hall is by biometric access only and that Jonas Hall has no mess facility.
What students report. Hostel residents on the Christ University student forum on Reddit describe the hostels as strict but manageable. For the Central Campus, residents report biometric attendance twice a day, in the morning before 9 am and in the evening between about 8:30 and 9:30 pm, a fine for missing it, and leave that must be approved at least two days in advance. Students also report that electrical appliances such as kettles, heaters and hair dryers, and outside food, are not allowed in rooms. These are student accounts and rules can change, so confirm the current timings with the hostel office.
What a PG changes. A PG gives you more control over timings, food and visitors, and each operator sets its own rules. The trade-off is the commute and lunch. Students point out that if you live in a PG you usually go back to it for lunch, so a PG within walking distance matters more than it first appears. That is the case for SG Palya, where campus is about a 10 minute walk.

Metro near Christ University
The nearest metro station to the Central Campus will be Dairy Circle, an upcoming underground station on Namma Metro's Pink Line. It is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the main gate. The station is not open yet. As of October 2026 the underground section from Dairy Circle to Nagawara is still under construction. BMRCL's stated target was December 2026, and later reports point to 2027. Pink Line dates have slipped before, so check the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation for the latest status and plan your commute by road for now.
Once it opens, the Pink Line will link Dairy Circle to Shivajinagar and Nagawara in the north and to Bannerghatta Road in the south, which makes PGs in SG Palya and near Dairy Circle more useful for internships across the city.
What to Check Before You Pay
- Walk the route to campus. Do it once at class time and once after dark.
- Ask how lunch works. Check whether meals are included, the timings, and whether you can get back for lunch between classes.
- Ask about entry timings and visitors. Rules differ by operator and by building.
- Confirm who lives in the building. Ladies-only, gents-only or co-living, and how shared rooms are matched.
- Ask what the starting rate covers. It is for the lowest-priced sharing option. Get the rate for your room type in writing.
